On 18th August 2017, Mr Hoang Tien Nam – a local resident handed over an Impressed tortoise (Manouria impressa) for rescue to Center for Rescue, Conservation and Creatures development.
According to his report, he found that a villager is selling the tortoise in the roadside. With a sense of responsibility in biodiversity conservation, Mr Nam persuaded the local to transferring the turtle to rescue. At the time of handover, the turtle is 2,5 kg of weight and no external damage.
Impressed tortoise is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List 2013. It also protected by Decree No.32/2006 NĐ-CP of Vietnam National Law in Group IIB. It is commendable to Mr Hoang Tien Nam for his persuasion and transfer of rare wildlife. This activity should be widely disseminated in the community to conserve biodiversity values of Quang Binh province in general and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in particular./.
