Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board held a conference on deploying the 2018 tasks

A conference was held on December 27th 2017 by Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board to review the works in 2017 and deploy the 2018 tasks. Mr. Tran Tien Dung – provincial Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee attended and directed the conference. Also there were representatives of many departments and agencies, companies and localities. On the Park’s Management Board side, there were Mr. Le Thanh Tinh – Director, Vice directors, Executive Committee of Party, Trade Union, The Youth and representatives of the Park’s FPU. Reporters of Quang Binh Radio and TV Station, QB News and Quang Binh website were attended.

In 2017, the Management Board has achieved many significant results. The management and protection of forests has been gradually stabilized. There were 1.901 patrolling, destroyed 20 illegal camps (decreased 60.8% over the same period), dismantled 1,854 rope traps (decreased 8,8%), prevented 155 people that enter illegally into the Park (decreased 65,1%); made minutes to handle 166 resource violations; mobilized the local people to submit 55 military guns and handmade guns; provided 438,6 millions VND for the State budget (decrease 20,2% over the same period). Successful implementation of biodiversity conservation, the success rate of wildlife rescue achieved 98.6%, updated, added 67 species of animals; deployed many scientific topics, seminars on animal and plant species; Implemented the propagation program of rare, high conservation and economic values native species; proposed 05 provincial science and technology tasks in 2018; 03 scientific articles in international and national GIS conference in 2017. There are many positive changes in promoting the value of heritage. The Park’s Management Board has intensified cooperation with local and foreign media, tour operators... to promote the tourism image of the park in particular and the province in general to the world. A preliminary survey of 58 unpublished cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang area in the communes of Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa and Thuong Hoa. Complete ecotourism projects submitted to PPC for approval; Survey some new caves to exploit tourism (O ro cave, Bi an cave, Bun cave, Ngam and cay sau cave in Tra Ang area). Thus, in 2017, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park welcomed and served 759,085 visitors (increase 8% over the same period), include 129,355 international arrivals (increase 50,4%) and 629.730 domestic arrivals (increase 2,1%). Total revenue reached over 216.5 billion (up to 31.5% over the same period).

Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park will continue to strengthen patrols, coordinate with functional agencies to protect forests, focus on preventing and dealing with logging and non-timber forest products in 2018. Not to occur in the area of illegal exploitation of forest products with a scale of over 10m3 and forest fires caused by human activities; reduce the rate of forest law violations absentee below 40%. In the coming year, the Management Board will continue to implement scientific research programs and projects in 2017 and scientific research projects in 2018. The Park will enhance the promotion of tourism quality, research and survey to put into operation some new tourism products to promote the heritage values, striving to increase from 8 -10% of visitors, tourism revenue increased 10 -12% compared with 2017.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Tien Dung – provincial Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee highly praised the Park’s achievements in the past year. He also urged the Management Board to focus on strengthening the task of protecting forest and promote the Heritage values; prepare conditions for the World Heritage Center’s assessment of World Natural Heritage Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park on conservation status; To closely coordinate with the local government of communes in the buffer zone, agencies and departments on propagating and protecting forests and preserving diversity of precious and rare fauna and flora species. On this occasion, the Management Board has awarded certificates of merit to the collectives and individuals who have recorded many achievements in their work in 2017./.
