The Botanical Garden is a miniature of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Located on Road 20 Quyet Thang, approximately 10km from Phong Nha – Ke Bang Tourism Center, Botanical Garden has an area of 77.1 ha. This is a place where two conservation methods are simultaneously implemented that are very rare in other National Parks, which are in situ conservation (Insitu) of the biodiversity value of the natural forest ecosystem and at the same time collecting and transplanting plant species from other places, also known as ex situ conservation (Exsitu).
The Botanical Garden has 513 species of vascular plants belonging to 327 genera, 122 families of 4 phyla. Of which, 16 species are at risk of extinction listed in the Vietnam Red Book (2007); 24 species belonging to group IIA are listed in Decree 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government; 82 species are listed in the IUCN Red Book (2020). The flora here has 14 different life forms and uses, of which the medicinal plant group has 251 species; the timber tree group has 163 species; the ornamental tree group has 68 species; the edible tree group has 54 species… This diversity reflects the rich tropical forest ecosystem with many rare and endemic tree species, including species with high medicinal value and large tree species providing valuable wood.
Since 2015, the Botanical Garden has been put into operation for eco-tourism and has become an attractive destination for those who love to experience nature and explore biodiversity values.
Gio waterfall – The Botanical Garden
Coming to the destination, tourists will have the opportunity to conquer the Gio Waterfall – which has a waterfall over 30m high with clear water flowing through each stone slab. Water from the rock crevices pouring down from above creates a very poetic and lyrical scene. From the top of the Wind Waterfall, tourists can admire the majestic beauty of nature and the landscape of Phong Nha – Ke Bang.
In addition, you will also experience the tropical forest by walking on trails up to 4km long through forests with thousands of plant species, including many rare and tall trees with a circumference of up to 300cm. Tourists can freely immerse themself in the cool water of Vang Anh Lake, admire the orchids, observe the monkeys and black squirrels competing to swing from branch to branch, listen to and observe the birds eating fruit. Tourists will also have the opportunity to see with their own eyes the scientific evidence of an ancient geological and geomorphological foundation of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, which was formed over 400 million years ago, by observing the fossil specimens of the four-rayed coral species kept at the Botanical Garden’s specimen gallery. This is also the place to preserve wood samples and plant specimens of the Green Stone Cypress – a rare, endemic species discovered in early 2005 in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park with a population of over 2,000 hectares that existed 500 years ago.
Vang Anh lake – The Botanical Garden
Coming to the Botanical Garden, tourists will also be provided with many interesting and unique tourist services such as observing animals at night with flashlights and participating in the souvenir tree planting service – a very meaningful tourist supplementary service when you want to be famous or want to contribute to an increasingly green – clean – beautiful environment.
