Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park attended the assessment meeting for the World Heritage nomination dossier of Hin Nam No National Park, Khammouane Province, Lao PDR

At the invitation of the Director of Khammouane Department of Agriculture and Forestry, from September 30th to October 6th 2024, the delegation of Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park was led by Mr Pham Hong Thai – Party Secretary, Director of the Park Management Board that visited and worked with Management Board of Hin Nam No National Park, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the Khammouane Provincial Government, IUCN experts and other relevant parties join in the assessment meeting for the Hin Nam No National Park’s World Heritage nomination dossier.

The delegation attended meetings and had a fiedtrip at Hin Nam No National Park. During the working sessions, IUCN experts also mentioned and paid attention to issues on transboundary cooperation and coordination in management and conservation between the two National Parks, in addition to exchanging and discussing some contents related to the nomination dossier and the Management Plan of the Hin Nam No National Park.

Mr. Pham Hong Thai affirmed that Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board will continue to support and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Hin Nam No National Park Management Board, Khammouane provincial authorities and relevant parties in the process of submitting and recognizing the nomination dossier for Hin Nam No National Park as a World Natural Heritage.

Also within the working program framework, Mr. Van-xay Phong-sa-van – Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary, Governor of Khammouane province welcomed the delegation of PNBK National Park and IUCN experts. Mr. Van-xay Phong-sa-van expressed his gratitude for the timely support and coordination of agencies, departments and branches from the central to local levels of Vietnam, especially Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee, Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee and the Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in developing and submitting the nomination dossier for Hin Nam No National Park as a transboundary World Natural Heritage with the World Natural Heritage of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.

IUCN experts believe that this field trip and working session are important factors to help IUCN have more scientific and practical basis to make recommendations to the World Heritage Committee before approving the nomination of Hin Nam No National Park as a Heritage at the Annual Meeting scheduled to take place in Bulgaria in July 2025./.
