Quang Binh delegation province was led by Mr. Phan Phong Phu – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee with members including Mr. Dinh Huy Tri – Vice Director (representative of the management board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park) attended the grand opening ceremony which was held at 7:00 p.m (Indian time) on July 21, 2024 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, New Delhi.

The opening session was attended by His Excellency Narendra Modi – Indian Prime Minister and Ms. Audrey Azoulay – Director General of UNESCO and Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo – Director of the World Heritage Center with more than 2,000 delegates from more than 150 countries around the world.
The session of the World Heritage Committee is usually held once a year and is responsible for managing all issues related to world heritage and make decisions on sites to be inscribed on the World Heritage List. This session will discuss related proposals for 27 nomination dossiers to the UNESCO World Heritage List (including 19 cultural sites, 04 natural sites and 02 mixed sites). In addition, delegates will report on the Conservation Status of 124 existing world heritage sites, assess the status of international support activities and the use of the World Heritage Fund, among other issues.

On the sidelines of the opening session, Quang Binh delegation had a meeting and worked with Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo – Director of the World Heritage Center along with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Cultural Heritage, and representatives of local leaders with World Heritage Sites in Vietnam.

In 2024, the Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is actively coordinating with relevant agencies, departments and branches to advise the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province to continue implementing activities to strengthen the protection of the outstanding values of the Heritage, and Report on the conservation status of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park according to Decision No. 45.COM/7B.90 of the World Heritage Committee at its 45th Session (Saudi Arabia).
