Transformation of the Phong Nha Special-Use Forest into the Phong Nha Nature Reserve under Decision No. 964/QD-UB by the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee, encompassing 41,132 hectares.
2001: Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park was officially established by Prime Ministerial Decision No. 189/TTg on December 12, 2001. The National Park's total area was expanded to 85,754 hectares, comprising a Strictly Protected Zone (64,894 ha), an Ecological Restoration Zone (17,449 ha), and an Administrative and Service Zone (3,411 ha).
At the 27th Session of the World Heritage Committee held at UNESCO Headquarters (Paris) from June 30 to July 5, 2003, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List under criterion (viii) for its outstanding geological, geomorphological and geomorphological values.
The National Park was awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for its exemplary achievements in environmental protection.
Awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for significant contributions to national development and socialist construction during the 2002–2007 period.
Designated as a Special National Monument under Decision No. 1272/QD-TTg dated August 12, 2009 by the Prime Minister.
Conferred with the Third-Class Labor Order by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 36/2012/QD-UBND dated December 28, 2012, defining the functions, duties, powers, and organizational structure of the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Management Board (replacing Decision No. 65/2003/QD-UB dated November 28, 2003, by the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee regarding the reorganization of the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park).
The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1062/QD-TTg dated July 5, 2013, on the adjustment of the boundary of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park from 85,754 hectares to a total area of 123,326 hectares (an increase of 30,570 hectares).
At its 39th Session in Bonn, Germany, on July 3, 2015, the World Heritage Committee approved the extension of the National Park. It was inscribed for the second time under two additional criteria: (ix) representing outstanding ecological and biological processes in terrestrial evolution, and (x) containing the most important natural habitats for in-situ conservation of biological diversity.
Officially recognized by UNESCO as the transboundary World Heritage site “Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park”.
