Tien Son Cave – A Fairyland in the Mountains

Tien Son Cave is located halfway up the mountain, approximately 100 meters vertically above Phong Nha Cave. It is often referred to as a fairyland or a heavenly palace. The cave has a total length of 980 meters. About 400 meters from the entrance lies a deep chasm approximately 10 meters deep, followed by an underground rock cave stretching nearly 500 meters. Due to the hazardous terrain, visitors are currently only permitted to explore up to 400 meters from the cave entrance.

According to scientists from the British Cave Research Association (BCRA), Tien Son Cave was formed tens of millions of years ago when flowing water carved and eroded the limestone mountains of Ke Bang. Later, due to geological tectonic movements, the mountain mass was either uplifted or subsided, causing rock collapses that blocked the water flow and formed Tien Son Cave above, while the underground river continued to flow below, creating Phong Nha Cave.

1. Tien Son Cave Visiting Schedule

-Opening hours (open daily):

• Summer: 7:15 AM – 4:30 PM
• Winter: 7:30 AM – 3:45 PM

-Duration of visit: approximately 2.5 hours

-Visiting Route:

After purchasing tickets at the counter, visitors proceed to the boat pier on the left to receive their boat number. The boat travels downstream along the Son River for about 30 minutes, winding through majestic mountains to reach the entrance of Phong Nha Cave. From there, visitors disembark and begin a climb of nearly 600 stone steps, combining light physical activity with opportunities to admire the surrounding natural landscape.Tien Son Cave is likened to a “fairyland” for its magnificent dry cave chambers and a rich, multi-layered system of stalactites, offering visitors impressive and unforgettable experiences.

At the end of the tour, visitors return to the boat pier, locate their assigned boat number, and cruise back along the Son River to the Tourism Center.

• Entrance ticket: 80,000 VND/pax/visit (children under 1.3 m are free of charge)
• Boat service: 700,000 VND/trip (round trip, maximum 12 passengers)
• Boat service for Phong Nha – Tien Son Caves: 750,000 VND/trip (round trip, maximum 12 passengers)
