Explore Hang En - A 3-million-year-old giant cave beneath the jungle

Located in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Hang En is one of the largest caves in the world, formed over 3 million years ago. This spectacular cave has been featured in the Hollywood film Pan: The Neverland (2015) and broadcast live by ABC News on Good Morning America. Hang En is also the first overnight campsite on the legendary Son Doong Expedition.

The 2-day, 1-night Hang En Exploration Tour, operated by Oxalis Adventure, offers an exciting trekking experience. Guests will trek 25km through dense jungle, cross the scenic Rao Thuong River, and visit the remote ethnic minority village of Ban Doong before venturing into the massive cave for an unforgettable night of camping, swimming, and admiring majestic formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

One of the most iconic features of the tour is camping on a soft, sandy beach inside the cave, beside the underground river and a turquoise lake. Between December and March, if weather conditions are ideal, sunbeams shine through the cave entrance and illuminate the campsite, creating a breathtaking natural light show that has become a visual symbol of Hang En.

While Hang En is the gateway to Son Doong, it also offers a standalone adventure well worth experiencing, ideal for nature lovers seeking a moderate challenge (ranked Level 3/6 on Oxalis’ adventure scale). The tour runs annually from December to mid-September, limited to 16 guests per departure, and open to participants aged 16 to 70 with good physical fitness.
