Persuade the local resident hand in endangered, precious and rare primates for rescue and release into the natural environment

On 2nd August 2017, with representatives of local government and Khe Gat Forest Protection Station, Center for Rescue, Conservation and Creatures development received one individual of Pygmy Slow Loris (Nycticebus pygmaeus). It is 0,2kg of weight which was found by Dang Ngoc Thinh – a local resident. Once informed, rangers of Khe Gat Forest Protection Station persuaded Mr Thinh to transferring the Pygmy Slow Loris to Center for Rescue, Conservation and Creatures development. After understanding the importance of the species and knowing that is illegal to keeping, Mr Thinh agreed to transfer.

 

Pygmy Slow Loris is also endangered, precious and rare species in Group IB in Decree No.32/2006 NĐ-CP of Vietnam National Law dated on 30th March 2006 by the Government on Management of Endangered, Precious and rare Species of Wild Plants and Animals, but also it is listed in the Government’s Decree No.160/2013/NĐ-CP. Violations on the protection of these species will be prosecuted for criminal liability as stipulated by law.

Propaganda and mobilization of Khe Gat Forest Ranger Station is timely action in conservation that contribute to implementing the plan No.1146/ KH-UBND dated 28th June 2017 of Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee regarding on deploying emergency actions to conserve primate species in Vietnam and Official letter No.432/VQG dated 17th July 2017 regarding on emergency actions to conserve primate species in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park./.
